Friendships Shape How We Parent

Behind every effective parent, there’s usually a friend or three who calmed us through the chaos, loved us deeply when life got messy, and cheered us on with “You’ve got this!”.

Now in today’s fast-paced, globally connected world, the importance of meaningful friendships is more profound than ever. In fact, recent research from 2025 confirms that loneliness is now a growing global health concern— often referred to as an epidemic by public health experts. The World Health Organization reports 1 in 6 people worldwide is affected by loneliness, with notable health, social, and economic consequences.

This only underscores what many parents already know firsthand: human connection is not optional — it’s essential. We’re part of a global village, with friends spanning cultures, continents, and languages. These connections don’t just enrich our own lives, they shape the way we parent. When we surround ourselves with friends who are present, genuine, respectful of differences, and supportive of growth, we’re better able to embody and pass on these values to the next generation.

Friends challenge us, inspire us, and often remind us who we really are, especially in the whirlwind of parenting. Here’s to celebrating friendship, not just as something we have, but as a vital practice for today and all our tomorrows.
